12 Natural Home Remedies to Cure Oily Skin

Oily skin is a common skin problem that can occur at any age but most common in teenagers due to puberty and hormonal changes. Oily skin is more prone to get pimples and blackheads. One of the main reason behind oily skin is over secretion of sebum by oil glands. Accumulation of sebum along with dirt particles make the skin looks more oily and greasy. This excessive secretion of sebum, when not taken care of may lead to formation of blackheads and pimples.

Home Remedies For Oily Skin




1. Gram flour, Turmeric and Sandalwood Powder


To get rid of oily skin take 1 tablespoons of gram flour(besan), 1 teaspoon of turmeric powder, 1 teaspoon of sandalwood powder, 1 teaspoon of almond oil and some water to make a thich paste. Mix all the ingredients and apply on your face and leave for 10 minutes. Rub with pressure with both palms and fingers to remove all the paste then rinse off with lukewarm water.

2. Papaya


Make a pulp of raw papaya and apply on your oily skin. Papaya has a cleansing action, naturally soften dead skin cells and help your skin for their removal. In addition to removing dead skin cells, papaya also helps a lot to remove excess oil.

3. Sandalwood, Rose Water and Fuller's Earth


For Natural Treatment of Oily skin, mix some sandalwood powder with rose water and Fuller's earth (it is a clay) and apply it on the face. Keep it for 15 minutes and wash it off with lukewarm water then with cold water to close skin pores. This natural remedy is also very beneficial for treatment of acne.

4. Gram flour and Rose Water

Make a mixture by mixing 1 tablespoon of gram flour(Besan) with sufficient amount of Rose water to make a thick paste and apply this on face for 15 minutes then rinse off with water.

5. Honey, Lemon Juice and Egg White


Mix a little honey with lemon juice and egg white and apply to the face. Rinse off after 15 minutes. This is a natural and effective mask for oily skin.

6. Cucumber and Lemon Juice

Mix cucumber pulp with lemon juice and apply to the face. Cucumber is a natural toner. It works as an astringent and is used to cleanse the skin.



7. Low Fat Curd

Curd (low fat) is an excellent cleanser. Apply it on the skin and rinse off after 15 minutes with lukewarm water .This refreshes dull, tired face and is also considered very good for oily skin.

8. Fuller's Earth, Lemon Juice and Rose Water

Take 1 tablespoon of Fuller’s earth(Clay or Multani Mitti), 1 teaspoon of rose water and 1 teaspoon of lemon juice. Mix them well and apply on your face. Once it gets dried wash your face. For best results, repeat this thrice a week.

9. Egg White, Avocado and Lime Juice


Take an egg white in a bowl and thoroughly beat it. Mash half an avocado such that you get a soft pulp. Now put beaten egg white, mashed avocado and a tablespoon of lime in a blender. Mix them well and apply this mixture on the face. After 15 minutes rinse it off. This will you an oil free, smooth and clear skin.

10. Strawberries and Low Fat Yogurt


Take 4 to 6 properly washed strawberries in a small bowl and use a fork to mash them. Then add a tablespoon of low fat yogurt to it and mix them well. Make a smooth paste and gently apply it on the face evenly. After 15 minutes rinse with cold water.It is considered very helpful to balance your skin oil.



11. Aloe vers gel and Oatmeal

A Natural scrub made from aloe vera gel and oatmeal is considered very effective to get rid of oily skin. Mix uncooked oatmeal with Aloe Vera gel and gently massage on your skin. Leave it on for 15 minutes and rinse it thoroughly.

Don't try this scrub if you are suffering from acne. First heal your acne then go with any scrub that really suits your skin.

12. Citrus Fruit Juices

To get rid of oily skin, try to drink juice of any citrus fruit. Juices of citrus fruits like Lemon, grapefruit, tangerine and orange, helps treat oily skin without the worry of harsh ingredients coming in contact with the skin.

Some Precautions and Useful Tips For Oily Skin

(i)Avoid sugar, chocolate, fried and junk food and also avoid soft drinks or alcoholic beverages because all of these food products may worsen the appearance of oily skin.
(ii)Do not smoke. Smoking promotes enlargement of the pores and impairs the overall health of the skin.
(iii)Don't use talcum powder on face as it gets accumulated in the pores and causes more pimples.
(iv)Along with oily skin if you have pimples or acne, do not touch or pop your pimples because they may leave scars on your oily skin.
(v)Keep your skin very clean but Limit washing your face to two or three times a day. Too much washing will stimulate your skin to produce more oil.
(vi)To prevent the problem of your makeup becoming patchy either on the forehead, chin or nose due to excessive oiliness in these areas, apply a little cucumber juice on the excessively oily parts of your face, dry thoroughly and then apply your makeup.
(vii) Do not apply any cream or moisturizer on your face at night as your skin needs to breathe. You can rub it with some ice cubes or simply rinse off with fresh water before going to bedroom..
