Best Home Remedies To Cure Toenail Fungus

Nail Fungus (Onychomycosis) is more likely to affect the toenails than the fingernails because when the fungus gets under the toenails they provide an ideal place for the breeding of nail fungus. 1. Apple Cider Vinegar

Soak your affected toenails for 15-20 minutes in a mixture of warm water and natural apple cider vinegar mixed in equal proportion. You can also use undiluted vinegar by applying it directly to the fungus affected area with a dropper. Repeat this process at least three times a day. Apple cider vinegar is a mild acid and prevents toenail fungus from spreading.Continue treatment until the affected area clears up. It is also possible that the skin around your nail will become irritated. If this is the case, treatment should be discontinued.

2. Garlic

If the above home remedy don`t work for you then you can use Garlic to treat fungal infection.Garlic has antiseptic qualities that`s why works wonder to treat fungal infection. Apply the mashed garlic on the affected area. Keep it overnight and next morning rinse off with lukewarm water.

3. Oregano Essential Oil and Olive oil

Blend 2 drops of Oregano essential oil with a teaspoon of olive oil. Apply this mixture for about three weeks, but not more than that. Oregano essential oil has antiseptic, anti-bacterial, anti-viral, and anti-fungal properties that`s why helps a lot to cure fungal infection.

4. Lemon Juice and Olive Oil

Combine lemon juice and olive oil in equal proportions and massage this on the infected area. Olive oil will help to soften your skin, lemon juice would help control the fungal infection.

5. Rice Flour and Apple Cider Vinegar

You can make an anti fungal scrub at home. Mix coarsely ground rice flour with a few drops of apple cider vinegar. Apply this paste over the affected nail and the surrounding area and then gently rub it into the nail and skin. You can use a cotton swab for the purpose.

6. Tea Tree Oil

Take tea tree oil and lavender oil in equal proportion. You can add some drops of olive oil to dilute this mixture. To increase the effectiveness of this mixture it is best to slightly warm the mixture before applying on affected areas. Apply this mixture 2 or 3 times a day on a regular basis for 2-3 weeks or until you get required result.

7. Listerine

Soak the affected toenail in Listerine for about 15-20 minutes twice daily. Antiseptic properties of Listerine help to cure the fungus. You can improve the effectiveness of Listerine by adding some apple cider vinegar or pure lemon juice.

Some Precautions and Useful Tips


  • (i)Keep your nails clean and dry because damp nails are more prone to attacked by Fungus.
  • (ii)Try to wear cotton socks because they easily absorb the moisture released during sweating but in case of excessive sweating don`t forget to change your socks.
  • (iii)Avoid staying in sweaty shoes and socks for prolonged periods because warm and damp environment is an ideal place for fungal growth.
  • (iv)Never use nail clippers belonging to someone else who has been infected by fungus.
  • (v)Avoid sharing socks, washcloths, shoes or any other personal items of those people who have already infected by this disease.
